WSRC welcomes Mrs. Alaska 2018 Leticia Wade as she comes to share about her platform - Build Them Up: Building confidence in our youth through activities and the arts.
A lifelong Alaskan, Leticia is a 2004 Bartlett High grad and has a BA in Communications from Kaplan University. She currently resides in Wasilla with her husband and two children as a primary stay-at-home mom, part-time substitute teacher, and dance instructor for Sonja’s Studio of Dance.
She believes that the youth of today are our tomorrow and maintaining involvement in activities and the arts will help to create a more confident and driven youth. Leticia grew up dancing, singing, and competing in cheer and dance and knows firsthand the importance of extracurricular activities and the experience of not being able to continue. As Mrs. Alaska 2018 she is determined to do her part in assuring that no youth has to quit because of financial hardship.

New beginnings: Rotary year 2018-19
July marks the beginning of the new Rotary year!
New RI President Barry Rassin’s theme for 2018-19, Be the Inspiration, asks Rotarians to inspire change in the world and in each other. “I ask all of you to Be the Inspiration to help Rotary move from reaction to action — to take a hard look at the environmental issues that affect health and welfare around the world and do what we can to help.”

Last week's speaker, Dr. Jamin Burton, shared a very heartfelt and inspiring message about the benefits of music, and arts in general, being taught in schools.
Not only does learning music give kids a leg-up on academic outcomes and accomplishments, it is also good for mental and emotional health and well-being - a particularly important point to be made during a time where isolation, mental illness, and suicide among our young people is at an all-time high.
Thank you, Dr. Burton, for being an inspirational educator to both your students and the community.
