January: Vocational service month
January is Vocational Service Month.
The concept of vocational service calls on Rotarians to encourage and foster:
• High ethical standards in business and professions
• The recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations
• The dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society
As a Rotarian, how can you put these ideals into action?Consider these suggestions:
• Talk about your profession in your club, and take time to learn about fellow members’ occupations.
• Use your skills and expertise to serve a community.
• Practice your profession with integrity, and inspire others to behave ethically through your words and actions.
• Help young people achieve their career goals.
• Guide and encourage others in their professional development.
By undertaking these activities, you bring vocational service to life. Vocational service is the essence of Rotary and serves as the foundation from which we serve our communities around the world.

Rotaract update

The Mat Su Valley Rotaract Club has a new president – Tasha Talvi.  Tasha is a former Rotary youth exchange student.  She spent last year in Brazil and is currently attending UAA Mat Su College.  She is looking forward to revitalizing the Rotaract Club.  Please help her by referring young adults ages 18-30 to Tasha.  Let’s do what we can to support the energetic young adults in our community that believe in Service Above Self.  You may contact Tasha at or text her at 907-782-5016.

Interact update

The Mat Su Valley Interact Club is doing great activities in our community.  Wyatt Parker is the new president of the club and is looking for other students from 8th-12th grade to participate and give back to their community.  Please contact Betti Jo Walters (Sunset Club) or Lucas Parker if you know of students that would like to be involved in the Interact Club.
Spirit of youth nominee: NMM Youth Board
No More Mat-Su's Youth-led Board has been nominated for a Spirit of Youth Humanitarian Award to recognize their local work to prevent and reduce domestic violence and sexual assault in the Mat-Su.
Spirit of Youth is dedicated to creating, promoting and recognizing youth involvement in communities across Alaska. Each young person or group who is nominated receives a congratulations packet from Spirit of Youth and a certificate, which is presented at a public gathering. Nominees are then eligible to be selected for the Spirit of Youth Award each year. Eight nominees are chosen by the Spirit of Youth Teen Advisory Council to receive the award. Group recipients receive a grant to support their efforts.
Stay tuned for more information about how this group of young people is being recognized for their hard work and dedication.
