this week
Ashley Wise
Join us Tuesday morning as we host Ashley Wise with the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS).

NOLS is a nonprofit global wilderness school that seeks to help you step forward boldly as a leader.

We believe that anyone can be a leader; it’s our role to provide the environment and training to help you discover your full potential. We do that in classrooms close to home and in remote wilderness areas around the world.

We’re an organization with heart, expertise, and wildness, and these qualities help us support powerful, authentic experiences.

January: Vocational service month
January is Vocational Service Month.
The concept of vocational service calls on Rotarians to encourage and foster:
• High ethical standards in business and professions
• The recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations
• The dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society
As a Rotarian, how can you put these ideals into action?Consider these suggestions:
• Talk about your profession in your club, and take time to learn about fellow members’ occupations.
• Use your skills and expertise to serve a community.
• Practice your profession with integrity, and inspire others to behave ethically through your words and actions.
• Help young people achieve their career goals.
• Guide and encourage others in their professional development.
By undertaking these activities, you bring vocational service to life. Vocational service is the essence of Rotary and serves as the foundation from which we serve our communities around the world.

Spirit of youth nominee: NMM Youth Board
No More Mat-Su's Youth-led Board has been nominated for a Spirit of Youth Humanitarian Award to recognize their local work to prevent and reduce domestic violence and sexual assault in the Mat-Su.
Spirit of Youth is dedicated to creating, promoting and recognizing youth involvement in communities across Alaska. Each young person or group who is nominated receives a congratulations packet from Spirit of Youth and a certificate, which is presented at a public gathering. Nominees are then eligible to be selected for the Spirit of Youth Award each year. Eight nominees are chosen by the Spirit of Youth Teen Advisory Council to receive the award. Group recipients receive a grant to support their efforts.
Stay tuned for more information about how this group of young people is being recognized for their hard work and dedication.
