Last frontier honor flight
At last week's meeting we had Ron & Lynda Travis with the Last Frontier Honor Flight speak about their fantastic program honoring Alaska's veterans. Twice annually the Last Frontier Honor Flight takes local veterans on the trip of a lifetime to Washington, DC to visit the memorials built to honor them and their comrades.
We heard Ron & Lynda talk about their experiences on these trips and the significance to the veterans that are able to go. One of the highlights of each trip is the "mail call" done on the plane ride home where letters from local schools, families, organizations, etc. are hand delivered to the veterans. Ron & Lynda shared how the veterans come with sentiments of "we thought people had forgot" and are overcome by emotions when reading their letters from community members.
President Janet Kennedy recognized John Glass as the July Rotarian of the Month. Thank you, John, for your service to our community and for putting service above self!
